Doctor Visit and Hip Ultrasound

We took Brooke to the pediatrician yesterday for a checkup. She also had an appointment to get her hips checked out with an ultrasound. Her checkup went great! The doctor was very pleased with all her vitals and her impressive weight gain. We were shocked and excited to hear that she now weighs 7 pounds and 7 ounces; which is a 1 pound and 3 ounce weight gain in less than 2 weeks. Brooke's ultrasound did not go as well. The dr. said that she has mild subluxation in her left hip. He wants her to see an orthopedic doctor to have it checked out further. So, I am a little worried about that but Keith assures me that it is not a serious issue. We have our appointment with the ortho doctor on July 9th. Here are a couple pictures from the doctor visits courtesy of my mom. She loves taking pictures.
We treated ourselvs to lunch at 5 Guys after the appointments. Their burgers are the best!! It is so nice to eat a burger and fries without have to count carbs or check blood surgars.

Brooke two weeks and first time going to church

It is hard to believe that Brooke is already two weeks old. She is changing so much. She is lifting her neck and holding her head up a little bit. She is able to focus her eyes on your face and the mobile in her crib. She is still eating every 2-3 hours. Hopefully she will start to taper off to every 4 hours during the night. She has her second pediatrician visit tomorrow. They are going to do an ultrasound to check out her hips. I am excited to see how much she weighs.
Yesterday we took her to church for the first time. She was such a good baby. She did not cry at all during the whole service. She did load up her diaper at the end of the sermon. Keith took her out and changed the diaper. After church Brooke was the center of attention. All the ladies wanted to hold her. She was very alert and happy for everyone. This is my last week off of work so I'm hoping to get the rest of my errands done. The dogs are getting a haircut this week. They are getting quite shaggy. We're also going to take our first trip to Costco this week.
This is Keith's last week as a 1st year resident. Starting July 1st he will be a second year resident. Their new group of first year's will be starting in the program on July first. We are excited for him to be on-call less and maybe home a little more. He will be extra busy in July teaching the new residents. It is hard to believe that we have already been here for one year. Only two more to go and we're back to Texas!!!

Keith's first Father's Day

Jess and Jacob, Me and Brooke, Lindsey and Christian

We celebrated Keith's first Father's Day on Sunday. Brooke and I got him a super comfy robe and some socks; a very dad-like gift. My mom and Keith went to church and I stayed home with Brooke. We are planning to take her to church for the first time this Sunday.
After church Keith cooked a wonderful pork tenderloin with rasberry chipolte sauce. We had a couple of families from his residency program over for dinner. I really like spending time with these families. They are both first years in the program like Keith which makes me excited that we will be here in Pittsburgh for two more years together. Both of these families had babies this year too. Lindsey and Pete's baby Christian is now 6 months old. He is such a happy and social baby. Jess and Matthew had their baby Jacob one month before Brooke. He is already up to 8pounds and has the sweetest face. Brooke has 2 boyfriends to play with! Keith has given them both a lecture on dating Brooke, ha!
Jess is a very talented photographer. She has taken infant photos for all the girls here. She brought her camera and gear over on Sunday and did a photo shoot with Brooke. I'm hoping that she got some great pictures. Brooke did not make it very easy on her. She would not move her arms down away from her face. We did a few naked baby pictures; which were adorable. This was the first time that Brooke was not wearing a diaper. She peed on me twice!
We had great weather for our Father's Day celebration. The guys played outside with the older kids while we stayed inside with the babies. They caught a ton of lightening bugs to take home.
I am so thankful to have a husband like Keith. He is so excited to be a dad. I love watching him with Brooke. I know he will be a great Dad to her.

Ryan and Kelly's wedding

My brother Ryan got married in Pittsburgh on June 5th. I was waiting to write this post until their wedding pictures were available for viewing online. If you would like to check them out here's the link: http://www.jbexposures.com/Kelly-and-Ryan/Slideshow/12600539_cN5xK#905147550_H6bRS

Their wedding was very sweet. It is still crazy to me that my little brother is a married man. We are so excited to welcome Kelly into our family. They had a beautiful reception at a fancy seafood restaurant here that looks over the city. The restaurant is on the top of the hill and has giant windows all around. There happened to be fireworks after the Pirates game that night. We had a great view of the whole show from the restaurant.
They took a two week honeymoon to Hawaii and are now back in Washington DC. They will be Brooke's first babysitters (other than my mom) when we go to the Brooke's and Dunn concert next month. I am so excited for them to meet her.
Congrats to Ryan and Kelly Dowdy! We love you!!

Pearl Necklace

The Ponte Vecchio Bridge in Florence, Italy

You might have noticed that I was wearing a pearl necklace in a lot of the hospital pictures. Keith gave me this necklace on the day Brooke was born as a gift for becoming a mommy. He had very sweet things to say about the job I did for the last nine months in keeping Brooke healthy and safe. He is a very sweet husband; definitely more sentimental than me. These pearls are extra special because they came from Italy. He bought them last summer when we were on vacation and kept it a secret this whole time. There is a bridge in Florence with a ton of nice jewelry shops. It is called the Ponte Vecchio. We walked across this bridge a lot during our stay there. The jewelry is beautiful. I am very thankful for my sweet husband and my sweet baby girl. We are excited to honor him this Sunday for his first father's day.

Brooke is here!!!

the breeched baby is finally free

all the nurses came in to see her going home outfit

Her going home outfit

her daddy is so proud

Excited to go home

Brooke first flowers from the Hursts!

We are so excited to welcome our new arrival Brooke Marie McSpadden. She was born on Friday June 11th at 10:32 AM. She weighed in at 6 pounds 8 ounces. Her length was originally recorded as 17 inches; but changed to 18 and 1/2 inches once she was checked in the nursery. I think it was hard to measure because her breeched legs kept flying up in the air.
The whole birth experience was great for Keith and I. We had a wonderful team of dr's and nurses at the hospital. The actual suregery only lasted about one hour. They had Brooke out in less than 15 minutes and it was such a relief to hear her cry and know she was okay. My biggest complaint from a pain perspective was getting the IV. I guess my veins are hard to find. It took 5 attempts and 4 nurses/dr's before the IV was successfully in. My arms now look like I'm a serious drug user.
We stayed for three days in the hospital. Keith's parents were able to fly in for the birth. My mom and aunt were also there for Brooke's arrival. We were so blessed to have a lot of visitors in the hospital too. We were released to go home from the hospital on Monday. We dressed Brooke in the CUTEST going home outfit. All the nurses came in our room to see Brooke in her frilly dress and bow.
Today is our third day at home and things are going really well. Brooke is a great eater, sleeper and pooper. She had her first pediatrician appt yesterday and she is already gaining weight, hooray!! I am so thankful to have my mom and Keith helping with Brooke. So far I'm not very sleep deprived. My incision seems to be healing very well and the pain is not too bad. It is a little hard to me to take it easy all day. I am not allowed to drive, lift anything over 10 pounds or use the stairs for another week.
Here are a few pictures from Brooke's first week of life. We have already taken over 300 hundred pictures. Crazy!
